Nights of Lights can be excellent with children, but the difference between a great night and a meltdown is usually logistics: how much walking, what time you start, where you park and whether you have a seat for part of the evening.

Best format for younger kids

A trolley or small electric-vehicle tour can turn the lights into a defined 30–60 minute event rather than an open-ended walk. Old Town Trolley’s classic tour is roughly 30–45 minutes; other small-vehicle options run around 45–60 minutes. That can be easier to build around dinner and bedtime.

Stroller or no stroller?

A stroller can help with distance, but historic sidewalks, crowds and brick surfaces are not always smooth. If your child still needs one for a long evening, bring it—but pair the walking portion with a seated tour so the stroller is not doing all the work.

Family evening plan

4:30–5:30: early dinner. 6:00–7:00: reserved land tour. Afterward: dessert and a shorter walk through the Plaza/St. George Street. This gives children a “main event” while adults still get the street-level atmosphere.

Boat tours with kids

Florida Water Tours lists family-friendly 75-minute cruises and vessels with windows that can close in colder weather. Fury also lists all-ages seasonal cruises. A boat can be memorable, but consider motion sensitivity, wind and later departure times before choosing it over a land tour.

Bathrooms and breaks

Do not wait until a child urgently needs a restroom. The Visitor Information Center and Municipal Marina are useful reference points, and temporary facilities are added during the busiest season. Build a restroom stop into the plan before your tour check-in.

Where to stay with kids

For a short holiday trip, a walkable hotel can make returning for a midday break or early bedtime dramatically easier. For a longer vacation, beach-area lodging may offer more space and a calmer daytime rhythm.
