Christmas in St. Augustine is built around Nights of Lights, when more than three million white lights cover the Historic District. The 2026–27 season runs November 21, 2026 through January 18, 2027. The lights are the attraction, but hotel location, parking and the way you choose to see them determine whether the trip feels easy or exhausting.
What should you book first?
Book in this order: hotel → signature Nights of Lights tour → any must-do dinner or daytime attraction. A walkable room can eliminate repeated parking battles. A timed evening tour is harder to replace than a museum visit. Peak weekends and the Christmas-to-New-Year period deserve the earliest planning.

Classic trolley
Best for first-time visitors and families who want a structured 30–45 minute holiday ride through the decorated Historic District. Old Town Trolley’s 2026 holiday tours depart from the Visitor Information Center at 10 West Castillo Drive beginning November 22; reservations are required.
Small electric vehicle
Best for smaller groups that value a more intimate format. Several operators offer electric-vehicle experiences, with some private options and pickup points around downtown.
Boat or sailing cruise
Best for couples, repeat visitors and anyone who wants the illuminated skyline from the water. 2026 options include Florida Water Tours, Schooner Freedom, Fury and Eco Tours; durations and departure marinas differ.
Walk the Historic District
Best as a complement to a tour. Start around the Plaza de la Constitución, then wander St. George Street and the bayfront. Walking gives you storefront detail and flexibility that a vehicle or boat cannot.
Where should you stay?
Historic District: highest convenience for a Christmas-first trip. You can walk to the Plaza, restaurants and many tour departure points. Uptown/San Marco: can be a useful compromise if you want proximity without being directly in the busiest core. Anastasia Island/St. Augustine Beach: better if beach time, space or a resort-style stay matters more than walking to the lights every night.
For a two- or three-night Christmas trip, location can be worth paying for. Saving on the room but paying in parking, traffic and lost time is not always a real savings.

Nov. 21: Light-Up! Night begins the 2026–27 Nights of Lights season. Dec. 5: the St. Augustine Christmas Parade runs through Historic Downtown from 9:00–10:30 a.m.; Colonial Night Watch follows that evening with a torch-lit procession at 7:00 p.m. These event days can change traffic and parking patterns, so build extra time into the schedule.
Parking without ruining the evening
The Historic Downtown Parking Facility beside the Visitor Information Center is the obvious central option, but holiday demand can be intense. Private lots also operate around downtown, and prices vary. The 2026–27 free Park & Ride schedule has not yet been finalized by the city, so do not copy old shuttle dates into your travel plan. How many nights?
Two nights works for the lights plus a compact historic-city visit. Three nights is the sweet spot for most first-timers because you can dedicate one evening to a tour, one to walking/dinner, and still fit the Castillo, lighthouse, a boat outing or beach time. Four nights makes sense around Christmas/New Year or if you want a slower family pace.
