Where to Stay for Nights of Lights in St. Augustine 2026–27

Compare the Historic District, Uptown, Anastasia Island and St. Augustine Beach for a Nights of Lights trip.

Updated September 20, 2026

For Nights of Lights, your hotel is not just where you sleep—it determines how often you deal with traffic and parking. The most convenient strategy is a walkable Historic District stay, but it is not automatically the best value for every trip.

Short trip: prioritize walkability. Longer trip: compare Historic District pricing with Anastasia Island/St. Augustine Beach, especially if you want beach time or more space.

Historic District: best for convenience

Stay here if Nights of Lights is the main purpose of the trip. You can walk to the Plaza, St. George Street, restaurants and many tour departure points. The premium you pay for location can replace parking fees, rideshares and lost time.

Uptown / San Marco: a useful middle ground

North of the central core, this area can put you near attractions and within a longer walk or short ride of downtown. Check the exact property location rather than trusting a broad “historic” label.

Anastasia Island / St. Augustine Beach: best for beach + city

This works well for three- or four-night trips where Nights of Lights is one part of the vacation rather than the whole vacation. You may get a different hotel experience and easier beach access, but you must plan bridge traffic and downtown parking.

How close is close enough?

For a holiday trip, “walkable” should mean you are genuinely comfortable making the walk after dinner and after a tour—not merely that the hotel appears near downtown on a map. Look at the route to the Plaza de la Constitución or Visitor Information Center, not just the straight-line distance.

What we would prioritize

For a couple on a two-night Christmas getaway: Historic District. For a family staying four nights with beach plans: compare Anastasia Island. For anyone booking a specific evening tour: check the departure point first and see whether the hotel simplifies that night.
