This itinerary is designed around the reality of Christmas-season St. Augustine: evenings are the star, but trying to cram every attraction around them makes the trip worse. The plan gives you one major evening reservation, one flexible lights evening and one daytime choice.
Day 1: arrive + walk the lights
Check in early enough to learn your hotel-to-downtown route before dark. Spend late afternoon around the Plaza and St. George Street, eat an early dinner, then enjoy Nights of Lights on foot. Do not schedule a major tour tonight unless your arrival is very predictable.
Day 2: history by day + signature tour at night
Use the morning for the Castillo area and Historic District. Have lunch, then take a genuine break. In the evening, use your reserved trolley, electric-vehicle or boat tour as the anchor. Arrive near the departure point early and put dinner either comfortably before or after it.
