A Christmas-season weekend in St. Augustine is short enough that location and reservations matter more than the number of attractions you list. The winning plan is one walkable base, one signature holiday tour and enough unscheduled time to enjoy the Historic District.
Friday: arrive and orient
Check in, walk the Plaza and St. George Street, and have dinner downtown. Make this the flexible evening so a late arrival does not destroy a reservation.
Saturday: history + your main Nights of Lights experience
Use the morning and early afternoon for the Castillo area, shopping or another attraction. Rest before dinner. Then take the trolley, electric vehicle or boat experience you booked in advance.
Protect Saturday night first
Compare current weekend hotel and tour availability. Saturday evening is the piece we would secure before filling the daytime schedule.

Where to stay for a weekend
For only two nights, the Historic District has the strongest convenience argument. You are buying back time. If downtown pricing is dramatically higher, compare Uptown/San Marco before moving all the way to the beach.
