December is the heart of St. Augustine’s holiday season. Nights of Lights is already running, Christmas events layer onto the regular attractions, and the Historic District becomes busiest on weekends and around Christmas/New Year.
What is happening in December 2026?
Nights of Lights runs every night throughout December. On Saturday, December 5, the annual Christmas Parade is scheduled from 9:00–10:30 a.m. through Historic Downtown. That evening, Colonial Night Watch’s torch-lit procession is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Event schedules can change, so verify close to travel.
Best trip length
Three nights gives you enough time for a dedicated Nights of Lights tour, a separate walking evening and daytime sightseeing without turning the trip into a checklist. Two nights can work if you stay centrally and arrive early on Day 1.

Expect variable Florida winter weather. Daytime can feel mild while open-air trolleys and boats feel much colder after dark. Pack layers and a wind-resistant outer layer if a cruise is on the itinerary.
Best December strategy
Use daylight for history, museums, the lighthouse or beach. Save your energy for after dark. On peak weekends, eat earlier than usual and arrive near your evening reservation well ahead of check-in.
